This Indian blockchain startup is helping UNICEF transport millions of vaccines across the world

Publication- The Economic Times

Edition- Online

Date- 29 April, 2019

For the world's largest procurer and distributor of vaccines, UNICEF always faced the challenge of transporting it to different countries across the world. UNICEF procured 2.5 billion doses of vaccines to children in nearly 100 countries in 2016, reaching almost half of the world’s children under the age of five. The figures make UNICEF the largest buyer of vaccines for children in the world. However, UNICEF had a problem. Despite working in the advanced technology-laden era, getting vaccines to the children in need and in time is still a difficult task.

Quality and safety of the vaccines were the primary concern for UNICEF. The reason for this is the inefficiency of the temperature-controlled supply chains, known as cold chains, which is responsible for storing and distributing the resources. Nearly 50-60% vaccines lose their efficacy owing to cold chain failures. In addition to this, 80% of the vaccines lose their efficacy due to supply chain mismanagement.

Airtel may monetise its data analytics division

Publication- DNA India

Edition- Online

Date- 29 April, 2019

Airtel is planning to monetise its data analytics and innovation division, where other telecom players can leverage the intelligence and solutions created by the company. "We study customer preferences, their device pattern, consumption, interest, applications downloaded along with usage to make the right offer. All this data is being collected without compromising on the privacy of users," a senior company executive told DNA Money on the condition of anonymity.

Currently, data analytics is being used for internal use, but it might be hived off as a service which could be used by other players. Airtel's X Labs – the data analytics and innovation division – was set up in Bengaluru to drive innovation in the areas of artificial intelligence, augmented reality, virtual reality and Internet of Things. The division is constantly engaged in building a pipeline of solutions and use cases, which could be replicated by other telecom firms as well, the executive said.

SiLabs Rolls Out New IoT Modules

Publication- EET India

Edition- Online

Date- 29 April, 2019

Seeking ease of use, designers are increasingly turning to modules rather than SoCs to build out the Internet of Things, said a Silicon Labs executive overseeing the sector as he launched a new generation of IoT chips. “We sell both chips and multiple flavors of modules including ones with antennas, and we see more customers adopting modules. It removes [wireless] certification complexity — people can save six months in time-to-market,” said Matt Johnson, who joined Silicon Labs last year as general manager of IoT products.

Modules still represent a minority of the company’s IoT sales, but they are growing faster than the 20% rate of its overall IoT products. “All of our ZWave and a lot of our Zigbee and Bluetooth sales are modules,” Johnson said. Overall, the IoT market continues to fragment and is not growing as fast as once expected, but it will continue to expand for many years. “We see a multi-decade opportunity. IoT already is 50-60% of our revenue and more than two-thirds of our spending — so it’s a big commitment,” he said.
