Tamil Nadu government adopts Blockchain technology for e-governance services

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami recently announced new governance measures for better e-service delivery to the citizens, on behalf of Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA). The first initiative taken towards the same is named Zero knowledge proof identity based predictive Government Service Delivery.
The application software used for issuing various certificates under this program will be suitably modified so that the document issued shall electronically hit the Makkal Number created by TNeGA. Based on the numbers, the certificates will electronically reach the Citizen Vaults, which will be created for each resident of Tamil Nadu. The citizens can then fetch the certificates/documents in his vault using his/her mobile number as a user ID and OTP as a password.
TNeGA stated, “A system on Blockchain will prompt the software of each Government Department/Agency to issue the certificate/document, as and when the citizen becomes eligible for it.” According to TNeGA, Government Departments, Agencies or employers can verify the authenticity of the qualifications based on the citizen’s consent.”

Gurugram-based Droom launches IoT-enabled Eco Labs to provide car inspection services

Droom, a Gurugram-based online marketplace for second hand cars, has started an Internet of Things (IoT) enabled Eco Lab. The purpose of the launch is to bring in new innovations for Eco Inspection, which provides inspection services for those purchasing used vehicles. Also, the Eco Lab will provide other services in large fleet management. “After setting up the AI lab to evolve orange book value (OBV) and build newer state-of-the-art tools, we wanted to leverage the technologies to innovate our Eco Inspection tool further. Our aim is to keep our customers free from the stress of dealing with strangers when buying used vehicles,” Rupendra Singh, vice-president of Certification services at Droom, said.
Droom was founded by Sandeep Aggarwal in 2014. The Gurugram-headquartered company claims that buyers will not only get vehicles at a low-price, but also receive an all-inclusive report of it.

Major Korean Firms Collaborate For Blockchain-Based Mobile ID System

A consortium of major South Korean firms have joined hands to launch a blockchain-based mobile identification system in 2020, English-language local media Korea Times reports on July 14. As per the report, the participant firms include financial services firms KEB Hana Bank, KOSCOM, Woori Bank, mobile carriers SK Telecom, LG UPlus, KT, and technology behemoth Samsung Electronics. The partnership is aimed at developing a self-sovereign identity system that can eliminate any intermediaries, enabling individuals and organizations to control their identity information in online transactions.
With this service , userd could store personal information such as resident registration numbers, bank account numbers, and use them at will. The particpating financial service firms are tasked to provide certification services, telecom companies with managing stable mobile services, and Samsung will ensure secure management of the stored data.
Reportedly, Samsung will manage data with Samsung Knox, an enterprise mobile security solution pre-installed in most of its smartphones, tablets, and wearables. The consortium intends to pursue further partners, including large businesses, hospitals, universities, entertainment facilities, insurers, resorts, and country clubs in 2020.
