Ericsson launches critical communications broadband networks offering

Ericsson has launched its critical communications broadband portfolio for service providers. This will enable service providers to meet the business-critical and mission critical needs of industries and public safety agencies as digitalization and modernization of *land mobile radio communications increases.
When communication is disrupted by minutes, seconds, or even milliseconds, it can have huge consequences for business operations, or serious implications for public safety. The need for fast and reliable communication is therefore paramount.
Such critical communications are used in many areas: from first responders and nationwide emergency services to workforce safety in enterprises. There is a growing demand for business- and mission-critical broadband for such use cases. Service providers need to deliver the highest level of availability, reliability and security to meet this demand.

Ericsson has launched a new Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based managed services offering for communications service providers – the Ericsson Operations Engine. The solution is an end-to-end managed services operating model that, through Artificial Intelligence, automation, and the power of data, reimagines network and IT operations, network design and optimisation, and applications development and maintenance.
“Managed services will play a significant role in the service providers transformation initiatives taking place worldwide. Nearly 65 percent of service providers indicate that managed services will be key in addressing their main operational concerns around customer satisfaction – improving customer experience is the number one factor that will influence service providers use of managed services – revenue growth and cost efficiency. It's also clear that advanced technologies like AI, automation and analytics represent the underlying pillars for supporting and enabling operational transformation through managed services partnerships,” said Curtis Price, Program Vice President, Infrastructure Services, IDC.

Switzerland completes 5G spectrum auction raising $379 mn

Switzerland’s Federal Communications Commission (ComCom) announced the completion of 5G spectrum auction raising CHF 380 million or $379 million. Salt, Sunrise and Swisscom purchased new frequencies in the auction conducted by Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) during 29 January and 7 February 2019. ComCom sold mobile radio frequencies in the 700 MHz, 1400 MHz and 3500 MHz spectrum bands.
The regulator revealed all these spectrum bands can be used for 5G by the leading three operators: Salt, Sunrise and Swisscom. The government could not sell five frequency blocks of 5 MHz in the 2600 MHz band and in the 700 and 1400 MHz ranges. Swisscom aims to launch 5G network in 60 Swiss towns and communities by the end of 2019. Ericsson, the third largest telecom network supplier in the world, is assisting Swisscom for the development of 5G network.

Enterprises entering post-digital era to boost customer experiences: Accenture Four in five businesses believe that digital technologies like mobile, analytics and Cloud have moved beyond adoption silos to become part of the core technology foundation for their organisation, an Accenture report said on Thursday.
The enterprises are entering a new "post-digital" era where success will be based on mastering a set of new technologies that can deliver personalised experiences for customers, employees and business partners, according to Accenture "Technology Vision 2019". "A post-digital world doesn't mean that digital is over. On the contrary, we're posing a new question: As all organisations develop their digital competency, what will set you apart?" asked Paul Daugherty, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer at Accenture. For the report, Accenture surveyed more than 6,600 business and IT executives globally.

Progress To Making Every City A Smart City

Narendra Modi unveiled the Smart City programme on 15th June 2015 to upgrade 100 cities and to make it a world-class dwelling place with proper management along with smart solutions. As of January 2018, 99 cities had been added to the list and Shillong was the 100th place which was to be added to the list after it had submitted the plan. According to reports, about 100 million people have been affected by Smart City projects so far. A total of 2.03 lakh crores worth of projects have been proposed by the 99 cities which would cover around 4500 projects in total. Out of this proposed amount, around 4000 crores worth of projects has been completed.
Affordable housing projects have been made available after an investment of 18,000 crores in around 60 of the selected cities. Cities such as Bhubaneswar, which was ranked first in the initial batch albeit making it the first Smart City of India, has introduced a common payment system with the help of a Public Private Partnership(PPP). Pune will be setting up a centralised command centre which will integrate management of various functions that will be undertaken. Cities have set-up an effective response system against natural calamities which will save them from extreme damage. Cities under this scheme have been vying for cleanliness, and this has propelled them to some major distinctive levels.
