Date- 07 December, 2018

The world of enterprise IT is experiencing a seismic shift that is both technical and cultural, according to a new report on “Future Systems” from Accenture. Companies need systems that are boundary-less, adaptable and radically human to thrive in a world of constant change and to be able to innovate at scale.

Many companies today are hindered by a patchwork of applications and talent trained for yesterday’s technology. At the same time, they find themselves surrounded by a rapidly evolving competitive playing field shaped by technology including practically infinite computing power; a nonstop flow of data and countless new uses of artificial intelligence and internet of things (IoT) technologies.

Noting that the current style of IT isn’t suited to constant and accelerating change, the report states that companies need to purposely evolve to approaches that are more experimental, agile and resilient. This requires totally new ways of thinking, working and innovating, with a workforce that adapts to the relentless pace of technology. Companies should no longer think of their applications, infrastructure and employees as discrete, standalone entities, but as interconnected, living systems.

Big Data: The Driving Force for Logistics Automation

Publication-CXO Today

Edition- Online

Date- 07 December, 2018

One of the key factors in the success of global businesses has been the efficient analysis of past performance data: consumer data to improve products and increase customer satisfaction or operational data to improve efficiency and reduce cost. However, in today’s interconnected digital world with the proliferation of smart mobile devices and the advancements in operations and transport automation, we are seeing a shift towards larger and more diverse real-time data that is revolutionizing the way companies can manage their new-age supply chain networks.

What is Big Data?

Big Data refers to extremely large data sets, from several sources that are often available real-time and that cannot be managed by traditional data processing systems. Advanced statistical programs, machine and deep learning algorithms can process this data and generate patterns, trends and implementable business insights. This has enabled companies to not only make instant decisions to increase efficiency but also to automatically adjust their robotic processes via a continuous feedback and improvement loop powered by big data analytics.

Date- 07 December, 2018

In an interview with TechCircle, Chris Porthouse, ARM’s vice president and general manager for device services, spoke about the huge opportunity that IoT offers and how the company is gradually making efforts to accelerate the pace of IoT adoption. Edited excerpts: IoT as a division was not big within ARM a few years ago. What is your mandate? Do you consider a smartwatch or a smartglass to be an IoT device? So, we are more focused on industrial IoT like smart cities, utilities, smart homes and connected spaces. We are focused on those enterprise customers.

One of the things we are trying to accelerate... we are talking about a trillion connected devices by 2035. It is hard to envision what that would look like. How do we enable our partners and our customers to get to market and make IoT a reality? It is a huge challenge technically and commercially. We are beginning to see people moving from proof-of-concept to production now. We see that in smart lighting, utilities, South Korean utility company KEPCO has ordered 20 million smart metres in the country. Transport and logistics is an important vertical for us. For instance, measuring the temperature or humidity and the data on this is becoming more valuable.

Cloud-based IoT is crucial for the smart city ecosystem

Publication-Nyoooz

Date- 07 December, 2018

Operators must migrate their IoT platform to the cloud to provide smart city ecosystem partners with control over their own M2M deployments. Mobile networks are the backbone to any successful smart city, as they are with any local or global IoT deployment. Taking a step back, I see many of the innovations that are changing cities into smart cities, such as ride-hailing and smart homes, are revenue-generating concepts introduced by private-sector companies.

Virtualized cloud-based platforms can scale up to manage any number of IoT devices and provide sophisticated functionalities. Operators of connected services in a smart city need control and autonomy in managing, troubleshooting and controlling their devices.
